Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River Announces Winners of the 2016 Photo Contest

BEACH LAKE, PA – Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River is pleased to announce the winners of our second photography contest focused on the outstanding resources of the park and the connection between those resources and the public. Over 50 photographs were submitted between March 1 and August 25, 2016. They captured the unique beauty, opportunities for recreation, and biodiversity that can be found in the Upper Delaware region. Park visitors and local residents were allowed to enter up to three photographs in each of four categories: Scenic, Cultural, and Geological.

Judging occurred in November 2016 by a panel that included park Superintendent, Kristina Heister, local photographer David B. Soete, and Laurie Ramie, Executive Director Upper Delaware Council. In November 2016, the public was provided the opportunity to vote for the “Peoples’ Choice” winner on Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River’s Facebook page. After careful consideration, they are pleased to announce the winners in each category:

Cultural Geological
1st Place: Alex Westner (Greeley, PA) 1st Place: Winifred Boyd (Westbury, NY)
2nd Place: Jeffrey Sidle (Hawley, PA) 2nd Place: Alex Westner (Greeley, PA)
3rd Place: Winifred Boyd (Westbury, NY) 3rd Place: Pat Ashely (Laurel, NJ)

Scenic
1st Place: Alex Westner (Greeley, PA)
2nd Place: Pat Ashley (Laurel, NJ)
3rd Place: Karen Colalaco (Matamoras, PA)

Peoples’ Choice Winners:
Scenic: Andrew Baker (Hancock, NY)
Cultural: Dena Fiscus (Hobarat, NY)
Geological: Winifred Boyd (Westbury, NY)

Winning photographers received monetary awards. The Peoples’ Choice winners also received a Passport to Your National Parks book. The public may view the winning photographs on the park’s Facebook and Instagram sites and in local publications such as the Upper Delaware Council Newsletter.
“We sincerely thank all participants who entered their photos in the 2016 Upper Delaware Photo Contest”, commented Superintendent Kristina Heister. “Seeing the park through the lens of our visitors and community residents reinforces how special the resources of the Delaware River and surrounding area are to everyone. Thanks to all the entrants for making 2016 a successful 100th anniversary for the National Park Service.”
