Voluntary Donations Gratefully Accepted

NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) is offering free listings to eligible river corridor businesses in its “Visitor Information Map and Guide for Touring the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River: New York & Pennsylvania.” The deadline for submissions is July 7. Donations to offset the printing cost for this public service piece will be gratefully accepted.

Supplies of this popular brochure, most recently updated with 35,000 copies in 2013, have dwindled. Any new businesses that have opened or changed names since March of 2013 are particularly sought. Current business listings also require verification in order to be retained in the brochure.

The full-color, 12-panel Visitor Guide first published in 1989 features a comprehensive 17 x 22-inch fold-out map of the Upper Delaware region surrounded by business listings. It includes sections on river safety, recreation, sightseeing, fishing, boating, camping, hunting, emergency phone numbers, agency contacts, and a list of public lands and accesses.

The brochure offers a directory of merchants under four river recreation-related categories only due to space limitations: Accommodations; Bait & Tackle; Liveries and Campgrounds; and Restaurants/Food.

In addition to providing those specific visitor services, the business must be physically located within the Congressionally-designated Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River corridor in order to qualify.

The corridor extends 73.4 miles from the confluence of the East and West Branches of the Delaware just below Hancock, NY, south to Railroad Bridge #2 in the vicinity of Mill Rift, PA. Its landward boundaries encompassing 55,574.5 acres are based on hydrologic and topographic conditions, as defined in the Upper Delaware River Management Plan.

Portions of the Towns of Hancock, Fremont, Delaware, Cochecton, Tusten, Highland, Lumberland, and Deerpark in New York State, and the Townships of Buckingham, Manchester, Damascus, Berlin, Lackawaxen, Shohola, and Westfall in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are included in the river corridor.

Merchants who are uncertain about whether their business qualifies may contact the UDC office for assistance.

With an interest in keeping the Visitor Guide as comprehensive and objective as possible, the UDC has never sold advertising for the valuable exposure its brochure listings offer.

Voluntary donations by listed businesses would be appreciated, with all contributors recognized in the Visitor Guide itself and featured in a future issue of “The Upper Delaware” newsletter that reaches nearly 10,000 readers.

Benefactor categories are: River Booster, $25; River Sponsor, $50; River Partner, $100; and River Champion, $200 or more.
