NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) presented a check for $8,125 to the Town of Highland on Dec. 2, representing the final share of a $75,000 Community Projects State Grant funding program that Senator John J. Bonacic secured for the UDC’s eight New York State member towns.

A new air quality system was installed in the Highland Town Hall located in Eldred to provide employees and visitors with increased comfort levels and a healthier environment.

Specific tasks included purchasing energy-efficient air conditioners and dehumidifiers with associated hardware, retaining the services of a licensed electrician to do necessary re-wiring and install the units, and replacing damaged insulation in the attic.

The grant enabled the Town of Highland to significantly improve air quality in this facility used for municipal administration and public assemblies by local organizations. It was discovered upon inspection that the insulation had become compacted or wet, reducing its ability to decrease airborne allergens and to provide a barrier against loss of heating and cooling efforts.

The town expended a total of $8,204.26 on this project.

The FY 2007-2008 grant funding, covering the contract period of September 1, 2007 to August 31, 2009, represented the fifth round of projects since FY 2000 that promote tourism, improve town-owned facilities, or enhance river access in the Towns of Hancock, Fremont, Delaware, Cochecton, Tusten, Highland, Lumberland, and Deerpark.

Senator Bonacic tapped the UDC as grant administrator, working with the contract supervisors at the NYS Department of Economic Development.
