UDC Comments on DRBC’s Draft Natural Gas Regulations

NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council, Inc. (UDC) approved a letter to the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) on March 3 offering comments on the agency’s Draft Natural Gas Development Regulations.

The DRBC opened the rulemaking process on December 9, 2010 with the release of a new Article 7 of its Water Quality Regulations. The regulations are proposed to protect the water resources of the 13,539 square-mile Delaware River Basin during the construction and operation of natural gas development projects. Through its committee structure, the UDC has been analyzing the 83-page document and held a special work session on Feb. 10 to review the draft regulations with two representatives of the DRBC on hand to answer questions.

The UDC’s letter strongly references the planning goals and provisions of the “River Management Plan for the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River” (1986) in addressing concerns and offering recommendations to the DRBC.
