UDC Receives $10,000 NYS Grant

NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council, Inc. (UDC) received a $10,000 check on August 1 as reimbursement for four program support projects completed under an FY 2007-2008 New York State Community Projects appropriation secured by Assemblywoman Aileen M. Gunther (98th District).

The UDC sponsored a free public workshop on March 26, 2008 entitled, “A Review of the River Management Plan’s Land and Water Use Guidelines for the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.” The Wednesday evening session took place at the Tusten Town Hall meeting room in Narrowsburg, NY and drew 28 participants.

The workshop provided a timely overview during the UDC’s 20th anniversary year of the connection between the River Management Plan’s Land and Water Use Guidelines and best management practices based on home-rule land use authorities.

The format consisted of three primary presentations followed by an open question-and-answer session. The workshop’s objectives were furthered proliferated by coverage in the local media and UDC’s quarterly newsletter.

In an effort to improve energy efficiency, the UDC accepted a quote of $1,854.12 from DJS Plumbing & Heating of Callicoon, NY to install a Bosch Ariston GL8T I water heater unit to service the business office located at 211 Bridge St. in Narrowsburg. The cost for the 120-volt, on-demand system included providing all necessary electrical connections, new piping, and valves. Installation was scheduled and successfully completed on April 10, 2008.

An interior office painting project targeted the hallway of the UDC building located between staff offices and the conference room, extending out to a storage area and the back entrance door. The UDC accepted a quote of $580.00 from McMullen Painting of Honesdale, PA to repair any defects in the finish of the walls and to paint the hallway walls and ceiling in a color complementary to the rest of the office décor. The contractor completed the job on May 24, 2008.

The UDC fulfilled a long-term goal of developing an Internet site as a public outreach tool with a $7,000 allocation of this grant. After soliciting bids and interviewing candidates, the UDC awarded a contract on April 22, 2008 to Wdesign of Barryville, NY for the website’s design, hosting, and one year of maintenance.

Work was broken down into four phases including: brainstorming with staff to determine content and visual concepts; research and design; graphic preparation; and programming, testing, and full integration.

The website officially launched at the URL of www.upperdelawarecouncil.org on July 4, 2008. It features a description of the UDC organization, maps of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River and the UDC office, downloadable forms, trivia questions, and navigation bars to access the UDC’s membership directory, meetings schedule, minutes, press releases, grant programs, publications, links & resources, a photo gallery, and contact page. Staff is being trained to sustain the website for the future.
