BEACH LAKE, PA – The Zane Grey Museum in Lackawaxen, PA will be shutting down early this season for a much needed facelift. The museum will remain open through Sunday, September 8th and then will close its doors through the fall season. Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River has received funding to repaint the exterior of the building and to replace deteriorating woodwork. The work will bring the building back to its original glory when famed western writer Zane Grey called this place home from 1912 to 1918.

Simultaneously the original wood floors, once trod upon by Zane Grey and his contemporaries and subsequently by thousands of visitors, will be refurbished. In order to accomplish this work all the exhibits as well as the sales outlet will be temporarily removed from the building to allow access to the floors.

The work should take approximately two months to complete.

The museum will reopen for the winter eagle viewing season in January and February. Volunteers from the Delaware Highlands Conservancy will staff the museum from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Saturdays and Sundays beginning Saturday, January 4th and running through Sunday, February 23rd. Visitors can learn not only about Zane Grey but also about the river valley’s vibrant and thriving eagle population.

The museum is free to visit and all are welcome.
